Public Camping

We have decided to let our public campers come a day earlier than most shows so you can watch the magic happen. Come and join us from Thursday afternoon and watch the show emerge, transforming from a plain field to a bustling show. (Some aspects of the show will be in place when you arrive on Thursday as they have to be done before any public arrives.) You can enjoy the whole weekend until 4pm Sunday when the show ends, at this point unfortunately the holiday will have to stop as you will need to be off site by 5pm and heading back home.

Thursday - Enter the show field, set your accommodation up and head over to the beer tent where you can have a nice cool pint (or crisp cold fizzy drink) while listening to the night's entertainment (tbc).

Friday - Enjoy a lie in or early wander into town (or catch the bus from the bus stop at the main gate). The show field is approximately 2 miles from Barnard Castle. (Yes this is where the famous eye test took place!) Here you will find an array of shops ranging from quaint local shops to your more well known Morrisons and Boyes. There are cafes, pubs and even a museum to take a look at.
Fancy going a little further? You could head to High Force waterfall, calling at the picturesque village of Middleton-in-Teesdale en route.
Or most importantly you could sit back, relax and watch the show emerge. You will have the unique experience of watching people unload their exhibits and get ready for the weekend ahead!
All of a sudden it will be evening again, time to head back to the beer tent for an evening with entertainment from Harris Tweed. Some of the catering units will also be available to try.

Saturday - This is the morning you will be waking up to the smell of smoke and oil from all the steam engines, the noise of tractors chugging along to get lined up for the event ahead and stationary engines bobbing into life. Enjoy a day at the show, shopping in our craft alley full of local produce, trade stands containing all sorts of products or pick up a bargain at the autojumble. Check out the exhibits all shiny, situated in their line ups. Have a go on the fairground, sample the catering units available. (Don’t worry, you're on your hols, the calories don’t count!) Check out the tractor pulling, watch the exhibits in the arena, chill out and people watch, whatever it is that takes your fancy. Enjoy your day!
Tonight's entertainment will be provided by the Channel 4 News Team, a local band playing an awesome selection of songs. Engines outside the beer tent, food to be eaten, drink to be drunk, conversations to be had, a great night to be enjoyed by all!

Sunday - Hope your head’s ok this morning! The last day! Spend today taking it all in and revisiting the parts of the show you enjoyed most.

Don’t forget, all public camping to be off site before 5pm. We hope you enjoyed your weekend and will visit us again next year.

Please note that craft and trade stands are yet to be confirmed, this is simply an overview of the show we hope to provide you. We reserve the right to make any changes to the content.
